CalmCall Is NOT an Emergency Medical Service

CalmCall is a digital mental health support platform. Our platform is not a medical service, is not an emergency service and cannot be used in place of specialist medical care.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, danger to yourself or others, you must immediately contact emergency services (911 in US, 112 in EU) or a dedicated crisis line.

AI Does NOT Replace Professional Diagnosis

Our AI companion is an emotional support tool, not a mental health professional. This means that:

  • It does not make diagnoses. The AI cannot diagnose mental health disorders, medical conditions or any other condition.
  • It does not prescribe treatments. The AI cannot recommend medications, doses or treatment regimens.
  • It does not provide medical opinions. AI responses are based on general emotional support techniques, not individualized clinical assessment.
  • It can make mistakes. Like any artificial intelligence system, the CalmCall companion may provide incorrect, incomplete or inappropriate responses for your specific situation.
  • It does not understand complete context. The AI does not know your complete medical history, medications you take or other relevant conditions.

The Platform Is a Complement, Not a Substitute

CalmCall was designed to function as a complement to professional therapy:

  • Between sessions: The AI provides continuous support between therapist sessions, helping you with exercises, relaxation techniques and emotional tracking
  • Therapist access: The platform facilitates access to licensed therapists for professional sessions
  • First contact: For people who have never accessed mental health services, CalmCall can be an accessible first step

However, for serious mental health issues, CalmCall cannot replace the assessment, diagnosis and treatment provided by a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist or psychiatrist.

Therapists on the Platform

Therapists available on CalmCall are licensed professionals who:

  • Hold a valid practice license issued by their respective licensing body or equivalent in their country of licensure
  • Have minimum 3 years of clinical experience
  • Have undergone a verification and evaluation process
  • Comply with the professional code of ethics

However, online sessions have limitations compared to in-person sessions. The therapist may recommend in-person consultations or referral to other specialized services if the situation requires it.

Limitations of Artificial Intelligence

AI technology has important limitations you should be aware of:

  • Simulated empathy: AI simulates empathy through language processing, but does not experience real emotions. Its responses may seem empathetic, but are algorithmically generated.
  • Bias and limitations: AI models may contain biases from training data and may not reflect the diversity of human experiences.
  • Limited contextualization: AI may misinterpret emotional nuances, sarcasm, humor or specific cultural references.
  • Imperfect continuity: Although the AI remembers previous conversations, its understanding of your history is limited compared to a human therapist.
  • Absence of clinical intuition: A human therapist has clinical intuition, professional experience and the ability to observe body language — things AI cannot replicate.

Important Recommendations

  • Do not make important medical decisions based solely on information provided by the AI
  • Always consult a mental health professional for serious issues
  • Inform your current therapist about your use of CalmCall
  • Do not discontinue ongoing treatments without consulting your doctor or therapist
  • Use CalmCall as a supplementary tool, not as your only source of support
